Developer of the Month - deliciousSMS

Happy Holidays everyone! It has been a fantastic year for Greystripe and for mobile. As we look back at 2010, we are so proud of all the accomplishments everyone in mobile has made, from developers to publishers to advertisers to ad networks! We are so proud to be part of such a dynamic and exciting industry. Importantly, we are excited to continue to celebrate the accomplishments of our developers and publishers with our Developer of the Month feature.

This month, we want to honor deliciousSMS, the new mobile business of Paradigm.One. Paradigm. One is an Australian company that specializes in number portability solutions for the telecommunications industry and deliciousSMS has developed hit apps including chompSMS for Android and biteSMS for the iPhone. We spoke with Martin Cantwell, Director of Product Development, to get the inside scoop.

deliciousSMS logoWhen was deliciousSMS founded?
deliciousSMS' umbrella company Paradigm. One was founded in March 2000. However, deliciousSMS, the new mobile business of Paradigm. One was started 3-years ago.

What inspired your company to develop apps and get into this space initially?
I purchased an iPhone, sat down one day and played with it and like a light bulb moment realized that the "internet always on" connectivity from a mobile device was a huge thing that would change the way we used mobile devices. It seems obvious now, but 3-years ago it wasn't.

This culminated into the idea of providing an alternative messaging application where text messages were sent using internet connection as opposed to the mobile carrier network. The intent being to offer a cheaper texting service. More recently we have listened to our users and understood that features and customization are also very high on a users wish list. Thus we continue to develop and add new features.

What is your company background in mobile?
Our traditional business Paradigm. One is involved in the mobile space, but only at the network level in terms of mobile number portability. So not really specifically in the smartphone device space.

How big is your team?
Six.

How is your company funded?
Private equity.

What advice do you have for other developers?
First mover advantage is a huge thing, so if you have an idea then do all you can to get there first. Otherwise try and develop apps that get used often, as that's the key to earning good advertising revenue.

Why did you choose to work with Greystripe?
Lots of agencies promise the world, but deliver very low eCPMs. Greystripe is different, they have a very good, robust SDK and the eCPMs are good.
