Developer of the Month - Zynga with Friends

Meet our featured Publisher of the Month, Zynga with Friends, formerly known as Newtoy. We spoke with Tony Shih, Manager of Operations, to get the inside scoop.

When was Zynga with Friends founded?

Zynga with Friends was founded in the Fall of 2008 as Newtoy, Inc.

What inspired your company to develop apps and get into this space initially?

The launch of the iPhone was an inspirational moment for us. This device allows people to connect on the go at any time, and the possibilities that opened up for games to really connect people were and are tremendous. This same inspiration applies to an ever-increasing number of devices, and we look forward to exploring all of these new spaces.

What is your company background in mobile?

Our employees primarily come from backgrounds in the gaming industry. Mobile has been a new venture for us.

How big is your team?

Our team is approximately 20 people.

How is your company funded?

Newtoy was initially funded with a small amount of seed capital and subsequent funding was largely bootstrap, up until the acquisition by Zynga.

What advice do you have for other developers?

Look for the smallest critical feature of your product and focus on that, and then release your product. Don't try to optimize everything before launching your product - your users will tell you what additions they'd like to see. Think about the strengths of your platform - don't just copy what worked in other spaces.

Why did you choose to work with Greystripe?

Through its experience and facility with mobile advertising, Greystripe offered us an opportunity to grow our apps in a new way, and have continued to offer us exciting opportunities throughout our relationship.
