Developer of the Month - Sunstorm Interactive!

Meet our featured Developer of the Month, Sunstorm Interactive. We spoke with Anthony Campiti, President of Sunstorm Interactive, to get the inside scoop.

When was your company founded?
Sunstorm Interactive was founded in 1994 and began developing games for Windows machines. We developed a variety of value games but hit it big with the release of the original Deer Hunter in 1997. Deer Hunter went on to become a Top 10 Best Selling game and we followed it up with many sequels and related products.

What inspired your company to develop apps and get into this space initially?
We have always been interested in developing for mobile. But in the past most devices weren't capable of delivering a quality gaming experience. With the release of iPhone/iPod touch we knew it was time to dive into mobile in a big way and that is now where we focus 100% of our efforts.

What is your company background in mobile?
We have no prior experience in mobile. That's one of the factors which makes the iOS platform so successful. It's very approachable for developers with no history in traditional mobile development.

How big is your team?
We maintain a very lean staff of 2 full-time and 3 part-time. Our product line is growing so we are expanding to meet that need.

How is your company funded?
We are completely self-funded but would entertain offers for venture funding or acquisition! :-)

What advice do you have for other developers?
Find a niche and focus on it. Do what you do, the best that you can and stick to it. The marketplace is far too competitive to be jumping from genre to genre, style to style, etc. And have a marketing plan in place! Your app/game will get lost if you simply post to the app store and hope for the best. Along those lines, we are now offering publishing services. Talented developers can stay focused on development and allow us to take on the advertising and marketing duties.
